What are Brand Advocates?
We can't fully control publicity because that would mean having some way of controlling what people say about us. One thing we can do to try to encourage positive publicity or sort of manage publicity is encourage what we call brand advocates. In other words, we can try to encourage people to demonstrate their support for our brand by promoting it to others.
How to Encourage Brand Advocates?
One method is to help people deem themselves as brand advocates. We can offer them some sort of a badge. If we can give them that label they may behave accordingly. Further, you must earn the trust of the brand advocate to get them motivated to do this. One approach is to turn our satisfied customers into brand advocates.
What are the benefits of Brand Advocates?
Brand advocates are considered trustworthy because it feels like a friend has just made a recommendation. There is also the perception that they are independent and not unduly influenced by the company.
They also increase brand visibility when they go out amongst their friends and amongst all their social contacts talking about us. It's a free form of promotion.
